About the Role
Deliver expert work allocation advice to the practice group, balancing client needs, business objectives, and employee career aspirations and well-being. Support the global Resource Management function to facilitate talent mobility and embed new processes.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert knowledge and advice on work allocation, balancing business profitability with employee career aspirations and well-being.
- Solve complex work allocation problems and anticipate business challenges, advising stakeholders on solutions.
- Understand alternative talent pools, including Digital Legal Delivery and external Alternative Legal Service providers.
- Maintain an understanding of global supply and demand for resources to drive mobility.
- Support the firm's work allocation strategy as outlined in the employee value proposition.
- Build relationships with Associates and Trainees to understand career objectives and discuss capacity/utilization.
- Build trusted relationships with Partners to alleviate resourcing burdens.
- Optimize work allocation by monitoring pipeline levels and smoothing utilization.
- Prepare and present management information on utilization, resourcing challenges, and well-being issues.
- Collaborate with Partners and HR Business Partners to incorporate professional aspirations into resourcing decisions.
- Understand KPIs and influence business outcomes through effective work allocation.
- Drive the adoption and maintenance of work allocation technology, tools, and processes.
- Aim to smooth utilization rates and support sustainable working hours.
- Efficiently resource matters and client secondments with the appropriate experience and skill mix.
- Provide robust insights to alleviate partner burden.
- Maintain oversight of global capacity and utilization to respond quickly to resource requests.
- Propose engagement teams that improve margin, facilitate career aspirations, and reflect client diversity.
Requirements
- Demonstrate experience in building strategic relationships at all levels.
- Possess outstanding communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrate the ability to influence culture change.
- Ability to understand and analyze utilization data and practice-specific work types to make data-driven resourcing decisions.
- Ability to act quickly under tight deadlines.
- Proactive and adaptable, able to demonstrate initiative.
- Strong commercial and client focus.
- Ability to understand key business drivers, including the impact of utilization and leverage on profitability.
- Ability to present summaries of the benefits of the work allocation function and data tools to senior stakeholders.
- Prior experience in Resource Management, ideally within a large professional services or legal environment.
- Excellent IT skills/experience working with resource management software highly desirable.
- Experience working in the legal sector highly desirable but not essential.
