About the Role

We are looking for a highly capable Senior Complex Claims Technical Specialist to join our team and provide technical support on insurance coverage disputes and major cases in litigation assigned to Adjusters throughout the US. This is a 100% in-office position.

Responsibilities

  • Adjudicate highly complex claims and insurance coverage disputes, primarily for our professional liability line of business, at the highest authority limits.
  • Conduct detailed information gathering, analysis, and investigation to find solutions to numerous and undefined issues.
  • Oversee defense panelists, including monitoring and evaluating operations and performance.
  • Conduct file reviews to ensure accuracy, attend mediations and settlements, and participate in pre-trial calls.
  • Provide technical guidance in properly setting claim reserves.
  • Report to senior management and underwriters on insurance coverage issues and claims trends.
  • Investigate insurance coverage issues and claims promptly and thoroughly.
  • Analyze claims forms, policies, endorsements, client instructions, and other records to determine coverage.
  • Investigate claims promptly and thoroughly, including interviewing involved parties.
  • Manage claims in litigation.
  • Manage diaries and complete tasks to ensure timely and optimal financial outcomes for cases.
  • Properly set claim reserves, considering the impact of different policy wordings.
  • Identify, assign, and coordinate expertise resources to assist in case resolution.
  • Prepare reports for file documentation.
  • Apply creative solutions for the best financial outcome.
  • Negotiate highly complex settlement packages, set reserves, and authorize payments within scope of authority.
  • Process mail and prioritize workload.
  • Complete telephone calls and written correspondence.
  • Demonstrate a passion for strong claim management.

Requirements

  • At least seven years of experience handling insurance coverage issues and disputes, with exposure of $100,000 or more, for Professional Liability claims.
  • Experience adjudicating claims under Commercial General Liability, Garage, Inland Marine, Excess, Property, and Environmental policy types is strongly preferred.
  • Must have good business acumen, understanding how an insurance company operates and impacts profitability.
  • Ability to regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment on significant matters.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build lasting relationships.

  • Must possess or be willing to quickly obtain a Licensed Claims Examiner license in each jurisdiction requiring one for first-party claims within 120 days.

  • Richmond Pay Range: $157,998 - $189,516
  • Albany and Chicago Pay Range: $173,706 - $208,386
  • Los Angeles and New York City Pay Range: $189,618 - $227,562
