About the Role
The Senior Originator will identify and execute opportunities to grow the Company's wholesale natural gas marketing portfolio by developing and maintaining relationships with natural gas suppliers and end-use customers. This role requires a self-starter with a proven track record of originating and closing profitable transactions, a strong team player, and the ability to understand customer business issues and opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Originate new transactional opportunities that enhance earnings, reduce risk, or optimize the Company's wholesale gas portfolio.
- Manage relationships with new and existing suppliers and customers.
- Develop a business plan and market strategy for target markets.
- Develop and implement strategies to shape gas and power marketplace structures and regulatory frameworks.
- Lead the internal deal team through all aspects of a complex approval process to successful deal execution.
- Serve as the internal and external expert on all issues impacting individual customers in the target markets.
- Attend in-person training, all-hands meetings, and other meaningful engagements.
- Travel as necessary to meet business needs.
- Prepare product offerings, manage delivery arrangements, conduct contract negotiations, and coordinate internal approvals and follow-through.
- Develop a thorough understanding of physical delivery capabilities and supply demand balances in the market region, including tariffs, operating procedures, and physical capabilities.
- Develop, price, and market financial derivative products.
- Partner with Trading, Portfolio Management, Risk Management, and back office functions to ensure deal profitability.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business and 8 years of relevant experience, or 12 years of experience in lieu of the degree.
- 8 years of experience in gas or power trading, renewable energy marketing, or origination.
- Demonstrated knowledge of North American natural gas and regional markets and market design.
- Experience with financial concepts, financial markets, wholesale energy markets, energy commodities markets, hedging, and/or position management.
- Strong capabilities in negotiating complex terms of structured wholesale transactions and acquisitions.
- Experience in financial analysis of structured wholesale transactions and acquisitions.
- Wholesale transactional experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including verbal and written.
- Experience working in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment with internal and external partners.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data modeling) and PowerPoint.
- Transactional experience with natural gas pipelines, producers, storage, power generators.
- Specific knowledge of the Texas, Gulf, and West region including pipelines, storage facilities, gas producers, and other wholesale market participants.
- Master's Degree in Business.
