About the Role
The Department Administrator in the Modern and Contemporary Drawings department provides support for all department activities, including acquisitions, collection management, exhibitions, and management of the Modern and Contemporary Collectors Committee. The position involves extensive interdepartmental communication and works in conjunction with the Drawings and Prints Department to schedule and oversee researchers.
Responsibilities
- Provides support for all department activities, including acquisitions, collection management, and exhibitions.
- Manages the Modern and Contemporary Collectors Committee.
- Facilitates interdepartmental communication with Conservation, Registration, Imaging and Rights, Administration, and Cataloging.
- Schedules and oversees researchers visiting the Drawing Study Center.
- Administers additional department events.
Requirements
- BA in art history or related field or BFA (MA preferred).
- 1-2 years’ experience working in a museum or gallery in a similar position.
- Prior experience/comfort handling art objects or historical materials.
- Knowledge of modern and contemporary art.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to juggle concurrent projects and deadlines.
- Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, familiarity with database programs including TMS; knowledge of Adobe Suite preferable).
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, accuracy.
- Dependability and reliability.
- Ability to work for extended periods at a computer workstation, lift moderately heavy boxes, move items to and from shelves, climb a step ladder, wheel carts with collection items through the facility, and tolerance for moderate levels of dust and odor generated during normal collections management activities and movement of objects.
