You will read, trace, and understand workflows across the entire codebase, looking beyond your primary language to solve complex problems. We love high velocity. We actively encourage our engineers to use LLM and agentic tools (Specs, Loops, and agentic workflows) to iterate fast and build systems. We stay provider agnostic (Anthropic, OpenAI, Cursor, local models, or self hosted models in the cloud). Use these tools to supercharge your iterations. Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deploy robust, scalable, high performance backend services in Java that power our core platforms.
- Expose backend endpoints through GraphQL, with efficient data fetching, query optimization, and clean integration with frontend systems.
- Build event driven solutions on Kafka for seamless data flow, system reactivity, and extreme reliability.
- Keep full visibility across the backend ecosystem, and understand how services integrate across our distributed infrastructure.
- Use LLM and agentic tools to move fast, while keeping total ownership and full understanding of the generated code.
- Tackle the hard challenges around how Time is managed, processed, and presented across the globe.
- Work closely with cross functional teams to turn complex scheduling requirements into clean, elegant technical solutions.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equal practical experience.
- Professional experience designing, developing, and shipping production ready, highly concurrent backend services in Java.
- Strong systems level thinking, with the ability to read, debug, and understand multi language codebases.
- Practical experience with distributed systems, microservices, and event driven architectures built on Kafka.
- Advanced experience using modern AI assisted engineering workflows (Specs, Loops, agentic tools) to safely speed up backend testing, generation, and architecture validation.
- Deep knowledge of reactive programming models, cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP), and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- A strong foundation in computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, and distributed system design.
- Experience designing and serving APIs, ideally GraphQL.
- Based in Germany with full right to work.
