About the Role
HDR is seeking a Senior Site Civil Engineer to join the growing Site-Civil team with Building Engineering Services (BES) group in Canada. This role serves as a key technical leader on our site development engineering team, leading the design on a wide variety of complex site development projects from initial evaluation through construction.
Responsibilities
- Lead initial site evaluation, including research of zoning and land development permitting requirements.
- Lead technical design and plan production for site development projects, including site layouts, grading, drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and utilities.
- Perform site civil engineering calculations and generate associated calculation reports.
- Prepare and review technical specifications, contract documents, and cost estimates.
- Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Lead land development permitting processes with AHJ’s.
- Serve as a technical expert, exercising judgment in the evaluation and application of advanced engineering techniques to solve complex challenges.
- Delegate tasks to and mentor junior engineering staff and technicians while working together on project teams.
- Coordinate directly with clients, permitting authorities, project managers, and multidisciplinary design teams.
- Serve as a project manager as needed.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Requirements
- A minimum of 10 years design experience managing various civil/site design projects.
- Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license).
- Project Engineering and Project Management experience.
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
- Experience using AI productivity tools to accelerate project workstreams including technical writing, code and specification research, and performance simulation and modelling.
- Ability to rigorously audit, validate, and verify all AI-generated outputs against core engineering fundamentals and regulations.
- Project experience with land entitlement and development processes locally and in other surrounding areas.
- Experience with site development design and construction plan development.
Skills
- Proficiency with Civil3D, Microsoft Office, and Bluebeam Revu.
- Proficiency with other site civil engineering software (e.g. HydroCAD, Autodesk Hydraflow Extensions, etc.) as required.
- Strong skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- AI-enhanced research and design process support.
