About the Role
This position supports the Cytogenetics Laboratory and Laboratory Quality Systems Management at Stony Brook Medicine. The role involves proficiency with electronic data processing systems, accurate transcription and reporting of test results, and maintaining quality assurance functions. The ideal candidate will provide superior laboratory services and possess excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Become proficient with electronic data processing systems including Cerner Powerchart, CoPath, Sunquest, Policy Manager, and Lawson.
- Accurately transcribe and report test results in CoPath and manual logs.
- Become familiar with all QA/QC functions, audits, and associated documentation.
- Maintain and compile data and statistical reports for regulatory agency reporting and continuous quality monitoring.
- Create and implement new Quarterly Audits under the direction of the Quality Systems Manager.
- Accession Specimens accurately using both electronic and manual systems.
- Assist in performing various administrative functions for the Cytogenetics laboratory staff, Associate Technical Director, and Quality Systems Manager.
- Serve as a professional role model representing the Department of Laboratories.
- Perform monthly inventory and maintain adequate levels of supplies.
- Perform laboratory maintenance activities in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Answer the telephone courteously, relay messages accurately and in a timely manner.
- Document all corrective actions taken when non-conformance occurs.
- Understand and comply with all regulatory standards (JCAHO, CAP, NYS DOH CLEP).
- Maintain specific knowledge of safe laboratory practices.
- Assist the Quality Systems Manager in the development of standardized forms for lab-wide use.
- Assist the Quality Systems Manager with Reference Cards for Lab Tests and Processes.
- Perform Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, and Semi-annual Audits.
- Perform additional Ad-Hoc QA projects as assigned.
Requirements
- An associate degree with at least two years of clinical laboratory experience.
- Knowledge of clinical laboratory operations, laboratory and/or hospital based information systems.
- Excellent communications skills.
- Clerical and Basic Computer skills (MC Office: Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
- Verification of degree (e.g., diploma or official transcript) is required.
- Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance.
- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
- Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen.
- Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
