About the Role
Slack’s Frontend Infrastructure team is responsible for the foundation of our desktop web client, building and maintaining the systems that power the user interface of a widely used enterprise communication platform. We are seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to lead the next generation of frontend architecture, focusing on improving performance, scalability, developer productivity, and reliability. As a technical leader, you will guide architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and shape the frontend direction at Slack.
Responsibilities
- Lead cross-functional frontend initiatives to improve performance, scalability, resiliency, and developer productivity.
- Design, maintain, and evolve core frontend modules, including Slack’s WebSocket infrastructure, boot process, Redux/React layers, logging, and alerting systems.
- Drive key architectural decisions to adapt frontend infrastructure to evolving product and platform needs.
- Identify and resolve communication and alignment challenges across teams and stakeholders.
- Represent and advocate for frontend technical strategy at an organizational level.
Requirements
- Extensive experience with JavaScript and TypeScript in large-scale applications.
- Deep familiarity with browser performance profiling and debugging tools.
- Proficient in React, Redux, and modern web technologies, with an ability to explain trade-offs and architectural complexities clearly.
- Author code that establishes forward-looking patterns that multiple teams depend on and can contribute to effectively.
- Strong communication skills — written and verbal — with a collaborative and empathetic approach to cross-team work.
