Responsibilities

  • Performs tasks associated with supervision, including hiring, training, coaching, scheduling, directing, and appraising staff.
  • Acts as a working supervisor, performing the same duties as supervised staff.
  • Holds regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports at least monthly.
  • Advocates for direct reports regarding idea sharing and career progression.
  • Maintains accurate records.
  • Adheres to quality control policies, documents all quality control activities, and maintains a clean work area.
  • Maintains proficiency and training requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with all local, federal, and CLIA regulations.
  • Participates in inventory management, special projects, and performs other assigned duties.
  • Assists in staff development and training.
  • Assists the Lab Manager with CLIA documentation and records, including supervising daily records and preparing for inspections.
  • Communicates with pathologists regarding laboratory issues and client needs, responding efficiently to concerns about histology.
  • Tracks and monitors laboratory quality indicators.
  • Answers technical questions from pathologists and clients regarding lab processes and histology workflows.
  • Identifies laboratory problems and institutes corrective actions.
  • Ensures operational compliance with laboratory SOPs and Quality Management Systems.
  • Exercises laboratory safety precautions and adheres to procedures in manuals.

Requirements

  • Possesses an Associate degree in Histology, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field; a Bachelor degree is preferred.
  • Degree must satisfy CLIA standards for Grossing Surgical Specimens (12 course hours of Biology and Chemistry combined).
  • 5 or more years of experience in the histology field.
  • Hold and maintain the HT or HTL (ASCP) certification.
  • May accept additional education and/or experience in lieu of certification when certification is not a jurisdictional requirement.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
  • Must be detail-oriented with high integrity and discipline.
  • Time management skills to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Basic computer competency.

Salary/Compensations

  • $90,000.00 to $130,000.00 per hour
  • Pay is commensurate with experience
  • Geographic differentials to the pay range may apply
  • Sonic Healthcare USA, reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range.
