About the Role

The Middle Market Property & Casualty Senior Underwriter evaluates, selects, prices, and manages a profitable portfolio of middle market commercial accounts. This role partners with brokers and agents to develop new business opportunities while adhering to company guidelines and profitability objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite new and renewal Middle Market Property & Casualty accounts with authority, focusing on profitability, growth, and retention.
  • Analyze commercial risks by evaluating financial statements, loss history, operations, exposures, and coverage requirements.
  • Determine appropriate pricing, coverage, terms, and conditions based on underwriting guidelines and risk characteristics.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and internal business partners to drive profitable new business production.
  • Negotiate coverage, pricing, and terms while balancing customer needs and company objectives.
  • Manage an assigned portfolio, monitoring account performance, rate adequacy, retention, and profitability.
  • Conduct agency visits, broker meetings, and marketing activities to strengthen distribution relationships and identify growth opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Risk Engineering, Claims, Legal, and other internal partners on complex accounts.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior underwriters and underwriting assistants.
  • Maintain knowledge of market conditions, industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive positioning.
  • Exercise sound underwriting judgment while operating within delegated authority and referral guidelines.
