About the Role
Join Spotify’s Global Government Affairs team in New York City to understand the policy landscape, advocate on important issues, and mitigate policy and regulatory risks. You will develop positions on public policy proposals and strategies to advance them, focusing on state and local policy.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute policymaker engagement strategies to strengthen Spotify’s relationships across priority jurisdictions, focusing on New York City, New York State, and other key states.
- Develop expertise on public policy issues with commercial and reputational importance to Spotify, including tax, artificial intelligence, content moderation, and emerging policy matters.
- Identify and assess priority state and local public policy issues affecting Spotify, and partner to develop effective advocacy strategies.
- Collaborate with internal teams (Legal, Communications, Social Impact, Product, Compliance, Trust & Safety) to understand business priorities, develop clear policy narratives, and shape approaches to key policy issues.
- Build relationships and partnerships with external organizations (trade associations, civil society organizations) to advance engagement and thought leadership on priority public policy issues.
- Represent Spotify with policymakers, government officials, industry peers, and other external stakeholders to support the company’s policy priorities.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience developing and implementing public policy or government affairs strategies.
- Experience working with policymakers or other public policy stakeholders.
- Experience working in government, the private sector, a trade association, or a related public policy environment.
- Proven ability to build strong relationships with policymakers and understand how to develop trusted relationships with officials in New York City, New York State, and other priority jurisdictions.
- Experience developing public policy strategies related to the technology sector.
- Ability to translate complex policy developments into clear business implications.
- Experience engaging senior government officials, private-sector leaders, and public policy professionals.
- Ability to develop and execute effective advocacy strategies while balancing multiple stakeholders and priorities.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, adaptable for various audiences.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships across functions and levels.
- Sound judgment and integrity in problem-solving.
- Comfort operating in a changing policy environment.
- Ability to travel throughout the United States as needed, including occasionally on short notice.
