About the Role

The Environmental Services Technician is an integral part of the Facilities department, working with a diverse team to achieve the highest standards of cleanliness and organization throughout the park and HQ facility. This role offers exposure to various maintenance and repairs in a learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout the High Line, including HQ facility, office space, public areas, bathrooms, access points, elevators, stairs, and mechanical rooms.
  • Work with the Maintenance team to perform various tasks.
  • Comply with additional cleanliness requirements related to COVID-19.
  • Remove trash from the Park and bring it to the proper disposal area.
  • Use specialized cleaning products and techniques for unique features, following manufacturer instructions.
  • Report and remove graffiti.
  • Participate in snow and ice removal using shoveling, snow throwers, and bobcat.
  • Maintain and report on the inventory of custodial supplies.
  • Respond quickly to spills, clogs, bathroom malfunctions, and potential hazards.
  • Collaborate with team members to accomplish daily assignments in a timely manner.
  • Work with programming and events staff to prepare the Line for visitor use.
  • Operate pressure washers and other equipment.
  • Collaborate with contracted specialists for seasonal or specialty tasks.
  • Act as an ambassador for Friends of the High Line, answering visitor questions about horticulture, history, design, and park information.

Requirements

  • Must be extremely dependable, punctual, detail-oriented, and a good communicator with staff and the public.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to use or willing to learn scissor lifts, bobcat, and other machinery.
  • Experience with facility cleaning procedures.
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools, willingness to learn to use other tools.
  • Demonstrate good judgment and a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel 10 or more miles by foot or self-powered vehicle over the course of the day.
  • Ability to remain in a fixed post for several hours at a time.
  • Ability to work holidays, weekends, early mornings, and/or evenings as part of a regular schedule.
  • Ability to bend, twist, grasp, crouch, crawl, and/or lift up to 30 lbs at a time.
