About the Role
Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd. (KCB) is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to support and lead geotechnical aspects of mining projects, focusing on tailings storage facilities, mine waste, and water management. This role offers career development opportunities in technical design, project management, and dam engineering, with a hybrid work arrangement and involvement in large-scale global projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support the design, construction, operation, and closure of tailings storage facilities
- Perform and contribute to risk assessments, dam safety evaluations, and risk-based decision-making
- Collaborate with clients, internal teams, and external partners on field programs and engineering solutions
- Conduct geotechnical analyses, including slope stability and seepage assessments
- Oversee site investigations, laboratory testing, and earthworks activities
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and staff
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships throughout project lifecycles
- Utilize industry-standard software and tools for analysis and design
- Participate in professional development opportunities, including conferences and training
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering (or related discipline)
- Eligibility for Professional Engineer (P.Eng) licensure in Canada
- 10 - 15 years of civil design experience, with five years related to mine waste management projects
- Background in geotechnical design, with a focus on dams, embankments, and slopes
- Demonstrated experience with dam design, slope stability, seepage analysis, and site investigation
- Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics, including laboratory and field testing
- Experience working in safety-focused environments with incident reporting requirements
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams
- Experience in seismic analysis of dams and related software packages
- Ability to find creative solutions and present them
- Willingness to mentor others and be mentored
- Ability to build rapport with clients, colleagues, and industry partners
- Ability to apply critical thinking and flexibility in problem solving
