About the Role

The VP, Construction Financial Control & Reporting is a strategic partner to the Leadership and Construction & Engineering teams, overseeing the end-to-end financial lifecycle for construction projects. This role requires a professional adept at construction meetings and presenting complex financial trends to executives.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the real-time tracking and reporting of all construction CapEx against project budgets and timelines.
  • Identify the source of cost differences and their impact on total project costs.
  • Provide early warning for cost overruns and potential delays.
  • Review initiatives to contain cost increases and get projects back on track.
  • Manage the finance construction team responsible for POs, cash deposits, invoice approvals, and ERP equipment tracking.
  • Monitor and authorize change orders and contract amendments.
  • Set and apply financial guardrails on construction projects.
  • Develop models using historical and market data to forecast CapEx, deposits, and baseline $/MW.
  • Identify variables causing fluctuations versus the baseline and compare eStruxture metrics with industry data.
  • Oversee the preparation of quarterly CapEx forecasts and annual budgets for expansion projects.
  • Review and approve payment and deposit forecasts for CapEx.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to ensure liquidity for CapEx payments.
  • Drive capital efficiency by optimizing CapEx spending and timing through strategic equipment selection, pricing negotiation, and cash flow management.
  • Approve terms such as pricing, payment terms, delivery timelines, and PO alignment with key suppliers.
  • Use historical data to compare quotes and challenge vendor pricing.
  • Prepare information for insurance companies to obtain construction insurance coverage.
  • Actively participate in construction meetings and visit construction sites.

Requirements

  • 15 years of experience in project control or financial planning within the data center, infrastructure, or heavy construction industry.
  • Experience in the data center industry is an asset.
  • Previous experience in project control on construction projects valued at $100M+.
  • Direct experience developing and tracking project metrics, such as cost/Megawatt or similar indicators.
  • Knowledge of construction operations, such as materials, construction methods, and procedures.
  • Experience in project management including planning, cost control and forecasting, change management, and documentation controls.
  • Experience with complex cost models correlating construction milestones with cash flows.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Experience with ERP systems and project management tools.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and manage stress.
