About the Role

The Associated Press is seeking a Senior Newsletter Editor to manage its largest daily newsletter, the Morning Wire, curating global journalism for a U.S. audience. This role involves working with a London-based writer, applying strong news judgment, and understanding U.S. digital audience habits.

Responsibilities

  • Curate and edit the Morning Wire, selecting and prioritizing the strongest journalism for a U.S. audience.
  • Collaborate with the Morning Wire writer to shape each edition, including story selection, framing, headlines, and presentation.
  • Apply strong news judgment and line editing skills to make AP journalism clear, engaging, and useful for newsletter audiences.
  • Monitor AP’s global news report and identify stories, photos, and videos for the Morning Wire and other newsletters.
  • Utilize audience data and analytics alongside editorial judgment to understand reader needs and identify engagement opportunities.
  • Contribute to shaping and refining AP’s broader newsletter portfolio, including developing and launching new newsletters.
  • Edit, produce, and support other AP newsletters as needed, handling curation, editing, and production.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the newsletter team, global news desks, engagement, product, and design teams.
  • Bring a strong understanding of U.S. news and digital audience habits, recognizing global stories relevant to U.S. readers.
  • Help maintain AP’s standards for accuracy, fairness, speed, and editorial excellence across all newsletter products.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in reporting, editing, line editing, or assignment desk roles.
  • Significant recent experience with U.S. politics or general news for a large U.S. audience.
  • Deep and comprehensive news judgment.
  • Strong line editing and headline writing skills.
  • High level of comfort with international news.
  • Skilled at quickly sorting through a large volume of news and identifying relevant content for a specific audience.
  • Hands-on experience using audience analytics at a large news organization.
  • Ability to combine data with editorial judgment to make decisions and solve problems.
  • Demonstrated experience programming journalism for loyal and highly engaged audiences.
  • Understanding of U.S. digital news habits and audience engagement with journalism.
  • Comfort collaborating across editorial, product, design, and audience teams.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving global newsroom.
