About the Role

This position works with the Building Services team to carry out assigned duties in the maintenance and repair of equipment, property, and buildings owned and/or managed by WoodGreen. The role involves performing preventive and corrective maintenance, conducting inspections, and assisting with various building-related tasks across all WoodGreen sites. The incumbent may be required to work overtime and perform on-call duties on a rotational basis.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on building structures, systems, equipment, and furnishings.
  • Maintain and repair mechanical equipment, appliances, plumbing components, and carpentry elements.
  • Read and utilize manuals and schedules for equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems related to building systems and equipment.
  • Conduct inspections of mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, structural, life safety, and security systems.
  • Perform tasks such as filter replacement, drywalling, and painting.
  • Operate various tools and equipment, including multi-testers, amp probes, power tools, and garden tractors.
  • Operate and maintain FAP and security systems.
  • Recommend repairs or changes to building systems for improved operation.
  • Assist and collaborate with outside contractors.
  • Respond to emergencies and perform on-call duties on a rotating basis.
  • Assist with janitorial, groundskeeping, and equipment/furniture moving tasks.
  • Follow WoodGreen emergency procedures, protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Attend assigned training for skill upgrading and organizational training.
  • Participate in supervisory sessions, training, and meetings.

Requirements

  • Completed secondary school and possess a technician qualification in a building trade or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in the maintenance and operation of large computerized commercial buildings.
  • Experience in air distribution systems related to modern air conditioning systems.
  • Experience in the maintenance of pumps and large air handling equipment.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License.
  • Thorough knowledge of the operation and maintenance of heating boilers, chemical treatment of chilled and hot water systems, building electrical systems, UPS power systems, fire safety equipment, and fire suppression systems.

  • Computer literacy (Maintenance Management programs, email).
  • Effective English communication (written and verbal).
  • Ability to follow directions, schedules, and checklists.
  • Ability to read and use manuals and schedules for repair and maintenance.
  • Thorough understanding of building systems and equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy items.
  • Ability to bend, squat, and climb ladders/stairs.
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to read and perform tasks outlined in technical manuals and publications.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relations with other staff.
  • Knowledge of automatic heating and cooling controls, including pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to operate motorized equipment.
