About the Role
As a Visual Impairment Rehabilitation Officer, you will support residents with sensory impairments to build practical skills, confidence, and independence within their local communities. Your focus will be carrying out needs-led assessments and delivering tailored rehabilitation programmes for residents of all ages living with visual, hearing, or dual sensory impairments.
Responsibilities
- Carry out needs-led assessments and deliver tailored rehabilitation programmes.
- Focus on practical daily living skills, mobility and orientation training, and low vision support.
- Provide specialist advice on accessible communication methods.
- Order essential equipment within allocated budgets.
- Educate around technology accessibility features.
- Signpost to relevant sensory services.
- Work closely with families, health professionals, housing teams, and voluntary sector partners.
- Coordinate joint assessments and chair network meetings.
- Act as a trusted adviser to promote accessible environments.
- Contribute to service development projects.
- Maintain accurate records within Council IT systems.
- Operate under statutory frameworks including the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, and safeguarding procedures.
- Balance resident choice with safety to achieve positive outcomes.
Requirements
- Hold a Diploma of Higher Education in Rehabilitation Studies, an FdSc in Rehabilitation Work (Visual Impairment), or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Hands-on experience working directly with people with visual and hearing impairments.
- Experience carrying out needs-led assessments.
- Experience delivering practical mobility and orientation training.
- Deep familiarity with low vision services, dual sensory loss, and relevant statutory legislation including the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, and safeguarding procedures.
- Organised and proactive.

- Strong record-keeping skills.
- Confidence to manage a varied caseload autonomously.

Salary/Compensations
- Competitive salary
- New hires will start at the minimum of the advertised salary range.
