About the Role
Greenwich House Music School seeks two (2) teaching artists with diverse performing arts experience to lead after-school classes in public schools in downtown Manhattan for the 2026-27 school year. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about people and committed to making a lasting impact in New York City through a mission-driven organization.
Responsibilities
- Create an inclusive and safe space for 8-20 students, with an afterschool staff member present for assistance.
- Design and implement adaptable lesson plans to meet students' individual needs.
- Attend meetings with the Theater Coordinator, providing and receiving feedback on the program.
- Maintain a positive attitude, share innovative ideas, and collaborate with others.
- Keep the Theater Coordinator informed of progress and any issues.
- Prepare a short student performance at the end of the term, as appropriate.
- Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned by the Theater Coordinator.
- Manage planned or unplanned absences to ensure programming coverage.
- Interact cordially with all levels of personnel, customers, and clients.
- Complete necessary paperwork for a criminal background check and attend a fingerprinting appointment.
Requirements
- Degree in performing arts or applied theater, or three years of experience teaching performing arts to school-aged children.
- Demonstrated experience writing and implementing participant-centered lesson plans.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Professional integrity and strong moral and ethical standards.
- Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
- Confidence in leading a variety of theater games, music and dance for younger students, or improv and musical theatre for older students.
- Ability to balance structure and creative choice in classes with tangible learning goals.
- Ability to ensure students have fun while playing out their ideas.
