About the Role
Join AMD at the forefront of AI as a Sr. Rack and Chassis Design Mechanical Engineer. You will lead the design and build the physical backbone for next-generation AI servers, high-density infrastructure, and advanced liquid cooling solutions, tackling demanding thermal and mechanical challenges in modern computing.
Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design and influence mechanical architecture for AMD’s flagship server and GPU products.
- Collaborate with experts in mechanical, thermal, and structural design.
- Drive decisions and solve complex engineering challenges with diverse technical teams.
- Collaborate with a global team to define, design, and integrate mechanical systems for server/compute products.
- Lead mechanical development efforts across server design, system architecture, rack-level integration, cooling solutions, and laser and optics.
- Champion Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Reliability (DFR) principles.
- Participate in and lead design reviews, providing actionable feedback.
- Perform mechanical modeling in Creo, tolerance analysis, and system-level mechanical design.
- Contribute to post-silicon development through test planning, characterization, data analysis, and support.
- Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Drive the continuous improvement of mechanical design processes and workflows.
- Champion innovation by introducing new mechanical design concepts, technologies, and methodologies.
- Use independent judgment and initiative to solve complex mechanical challenges and influence product direction.
Requirements
- Seasoned mechanical engineering design professional proficient in electromechanical product design, integration, and validation for high-performance computing hardware, especially at the rack-level server systems.
- Demonstrated ability for innovation and continuous improvement.
- Proven engineering expertise to drive best practices and value.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Collaborative design mindset and strong design tradeoff judgment.
- Ability to adapt or rethink design approaches.
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple engineering design teams.
- Advanced experience and demonstrated ability to manage and contribute to multiple technically diverse programs in parallel.
- Highly proficient in leading complex engineering efforts from concept through production.
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes, tooling design, cost optimization, DFM/DFA, and supplier collaboration.
- Experience leading by example and promoting a culture of teamwork.
- Deep understanding of mechanical materials, manufacturing processes (sheet metal, injection molding, die casting, extrusion), and industry standards.
- Senior level experience in server and server infrastructure design is highly desired.
- Proficiency in developing mechanical solutions at the system level for semiconductor products.
- Seasoned experience in mechanical design and development, at Senior/lead level in server and switch development field.
- Proven expertise in the integration of silicon into system-level products, particularly in high-performance computing/server environments.
- Advanced understanding of thermal management, cooling systems, mechanical modeling tools, and industry-standard design practices.
- Advanced knowledge and demonstrated proficiency of statistical analysis, structural and tolerance analysis, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Ability to drive the definition and implementation of highly complex mechanical solutions in a dynamic, high-tech environment.
