About the Role

MGC Contractors, Inc. is seeking Concrete Laborers, Form setters, and Finishers to join our Texas Division in the Austin area. We specialize in water and wastewater general contracting.

Responsibilities

  • Spreads concrete into forms using rake or shovel.
  • Mixes cement using hoe or concrete mixing machine.
  • Breaks up and repairs concrete surfaces using pneumatic tools.
  • Cleans work areas, machines, and equipment to maintain a clean and safe job site.
  • Fine grades soil on ground to achieve proper thickness of concrete.
  • Selects tools, equipment, and materials from storage and transports items to job sites.
  • Erects built-in-place forms or assembles and installs prefabricated forms according to blueprint specifications.
  • Inserts spreaders and tie rods between form faces to maintain specified dimensions.
  • Anchors and braces forms to fixed objects using nails, bolts, and anchor rods.
  • Saws lumber to blueprint dimensions and nails lumber together to make form panels.
  • Signals concrete delivery to position truck for pouring.
  • Moves discharge chute off truck to direct concrete into forms.
  • Spreads concrete into inaccessible sections of forms using rake or shovel.
  • Levels concrete to specified depth and workable consistency.
  • Smooths and shapes surfaces of freshly poured concrete.
  • Finishes concrete surfaces using power trowel or wets and rubs concrete to impart finish.
  • Removes rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces and patches holes.
  • Molds expansion joints and edges using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge.
  • Sprinkles colored stone chips, powdered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce prescribed finish.
  • Produces rough concrete surface using broom.
  • Directs sub-grade work, mixing of concrete, and setting of forms.
  • Performs any and all other duties assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Six (6) months to one (1) year of related experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with others on site, in person and over the telephone.
  • Ability to read printed materials, signs and directions.
  • Stamina to maintain attention despite interruptions.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, carry, handle or feel objects, supplies, tools, machinery and/or controls weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to climb stairs and/or ladders.
  • Ability to balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift overhead, traverse around or otherwise position one's self around the required work.
  • Ability to navigate and perform activities on various construction sites in a safe manner.
  • Passing a pre-employment drug screen is required.
