About the Role
You will be joining a dynamic fraud team responsible for investigating all types of fraud affecting the council, including Housing Fraud and Internal Staff Fraud. The role requires successfully attaining a professional fraud qualification and gaining extensive practical work experience. You will work independently and collaboratively, with support from Senior Investigation Officers and Managers, to deliver a professional and flexible anti-fraud service. The Council will fund and fully support your training for professional qualifications. A professional outlook, quick learning ability, and enthusiasm for legal and social issues are essential. This role operates under a hybrid working model with a minimum of two days in the office.
Responsibilities
- Conduct investigations of cases of suspected fraud against the Council under supervision.
- Assist with interviews of suspects and witnesses.
- Help with the delivery of training sessions.
- Complete proactive anti-fraud projects.
- Generate and analyse management information.
- Advise on key performance indicators.
- Work on responses to enquiries for reactive and proactive fraud investigations.
- Ensure fraud investigation tasks are completed within agreed timescales.
- Assess and prioritise incoming referrals.
- Accurately record, review, and allocate all allegations, intelligence, and referrals for investigation.
- Exercise sound judgement when assessing risk, evidential value, and potential outcomes.
- Take appropriate action in accordance with departmental policies, procedures, and service priorities.
Requirements
- Right to work in the UK.
- GCSE Grade C/4 or above in Maths and English; or Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English.
- Commitment to completing the Level 4 Government Counter Fraud Apprenticeship and associated training programme over a 28-month fixed-term period.
- Demonstrate an interest in counter fraud, investigations, compliance, public service, law, intelligence, or protecting public funds.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to produce clear written work.
- Ability to organise workload and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to obtain required employment checks, including DBS clearance.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Satisfactory employment references and CIFAS identity checks.
- Satisfactory Declaration of Interest.
- Enhanced DBS check.
- Fluent English speaking ability for public-facing roles.
