About the Role

The Yard Jockey is responsible for completing assigned Warehouse duties to ensure customer, team member, and vendor satisfaction by positioning and moving trucks and trailers on and between warehousing facilities. This role also involves training and building competence in key warehouse tasks such as case picking, powered industrial truck operations, loading/unloading, sortation, and palletizing. The Yard Jockey will cover breaks and lunches as assigned and supports the warehouse and distribution of dairy-related products.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve assigned goals in warehouse/distribution, safety, quality, performance, and cost.
  • Position and move trucks and trailers on and between warehousing facilities.
  • Perform local vehicle operations, including routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment, and report defects or repairs to the supervisor.
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections of trailers, operate tractor trailer handling equipment, transport trailers in the yard, and complete yard check forms.
  • Comply with GMP’s, SOP’s, corporate and/or plant policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Provide assistance and support to all warehouse areas as assigned by supervisor/lead, and begin training on key warehouse tasks.
  • Cover breaks, lunches, and other staffing needs as assigned by supervisor/lead.
  • Be compliant with all legal requirements concerning dairy processing and safety on the assigned shift and report concerns to the supervisor/lead.
  • Work in a safe manner, promptly report safety concerns to the supervisor/lead, and take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Report food safety problems and initiate action, and support SQF by maintaining food safety and food quality.
  • Ensure work areas are sanitary and strictly adhere to sanitation practices.
  • Communicate effectively between shifts and other departments.

Requirements

  • Ability to apply basic to complex mathematical concepts for job tasks.
  • Understand and respond appropriately to basic to complex employee, vendor, and customer inquiries.
  • Read, write, and communicate using the English language sufficiently to perform job functions.
  • Knowledge of the company's mission, purpose, goals, and your role in achieving them.
  • Ability to operate facility equipment as required in the assigned area.
  • Satisfactorily complete all company training requirements.
  • Ability to interpret company documents and literature and UPC/code information.
  • Report to work at scheduled times and communicate tardiness and absences with the assigned Supervisor/Manager prior to the occurrence.
  • Report to work in a condition to work.
  • Be well-groomed and dressed in business- and position-appropriate attire at all times, including compliance with GMP dress code standards.
  • Comply with performance criteria, standards of conduct, and responsibilities as described in the company handbook.
  • Maintain a safe work environment at all times and immediately report and take appropriate action to correct a safety concern.
  • Complete all assigned tasks and responsibilities.
  • Requires morning, afternoon, and overnight availability any day of the week based on assigned shift.
  • Requests for scheduled time off require advance notification and approval by Supervisor/Manager.
  • Generally scheduled for 40 hours; more hours may be required based on business needs.
  • Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions.
  • Exposure to internal warehouse temperatures at or around 34 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • May be subject to exposure to ingredients used in food product manufacture, including allergens.
  • May be subject to exposure to chemicals used in food processing facility manufacture and sanitation.
  • Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility, including office, production, warehouse environments, and the outside perimeter.
  • Able to wear all necessary personal protective equipment.
  • Stand and/or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift with meal break.
  • Physically able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle and move items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and move objects exceeding 50 pounds with reasonable accommodations.
  • Visual acuity corrected to perform job functions.
