About the Role

Gallagher Bassett is seeking a highly experienced Employment Practices Specialist to provide expert technical advice on complex employment-related claims, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and early resolution. This role focuses on advising on liability, coverage, and strategy for employment disputes and enhancing organizational capability in managing these claims.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary technical referral point for complex or sensitive employment-related claims.
  • Provide expert guidance on coverage, liability assessment and resolution strategies.
  • Manage litigious and non-litigious matters including unfair dismissal, discrimination and workplace disputes.
  • Advise stakeholders on employment legislation, privacy obligations and compliance requirements.
  • Drive early resolution strategies including mediation, negotiation and ADR pathways.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with agencies, legal providers and internal stakeholders.
  • Deliver training and capability uplift initiatives across employment claims and legislative requirements.
  • Identify trends and emerging risks within the portfolio and provide actionable insights.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance claims processes, quality and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Strong employment law experience, ideally at Associate or Senior Associate level.
  • Proven experience managing complex employment claims including IR matters.
  • Sound knowledge of employment legislation, Industrial Relations frameworks and claims processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess liability, coverage and develop defensible strategies.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience delivering training and building capability across teams.
  • Strong analytical, drafting and reporting skills.
  • High level of resilience, empathy and professionalism.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a complex, fast-paced environment.
  • Must have the right to live and work within Australia.
