About the Role
The Senior Accountant will contribute to the accuracy and timeliness of financial operations and enhance the control environment within the Japanese Controllership function. This role supports daily financial operations, including payments and settlements, and is responsible for monthly and annual closings, financial reporting, corporate and consumption tax compliance, audit support, and balance sheet reviews.
Responsibilities
- Execute and support monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes.
- Support accurate and timely recording and submission of financial transactions and closing deliverables.
- Prepare, review, and manage financial reporting packages for internal stakeholders and local/group finance teams.
- Address financial reporting requirements for domestic statutory and regulatory purposes.
- Support corporate and consumption tax filings, payments, and supplementary documentation.
- Assist with tax audits, statutory audits, and other external reviews, including preparing documentation and coordinating with external advisors.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, internal control requirements, and relevant statutory/regulatory obligations.
- Perform and support daily financial operations, including payments and settlements.
- Perform and support balance sheet reconciliations, account reviews, variance analysis, and investigation of significant financial fluctuations.
- Identify, manage, and escalate financial and accounting risks, proposing practical solutions.
- Review accounting entries and support technical accounting matters.
Requirements
- Native-level Japanese and business-level English proficiency.
- Strong understanding of financial statements, accounting principles, and tax knowledge.
- Experience working in a multinational corporation is desirable.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial software (e.g., Workday) are desirable.
- Ability to take ownership of assigned tasks and perform accurate financial and tax operations.
- Ability to communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Team player capable of collaborating across departments to achieve team goals.
Skills
- Bookkeeping qualification or other relevant certifications (e.g., Bookkeeping Test Level 2) are preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills
