About the Role
The Center for Global Development (CGD) is seeking a full-time Research Assistant for its Sustainable Development Finance (SDF) programme. This role will provide qualitative and quantitative research support, focusing on Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), and private capital mobilisation. The position offers an opportunity to gain experience in research, policy, programmatic operations, and project management within the field of sustainable development finance.
Responsibilities
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative research.
- Help draft working and policy papers, briefs, and notes.
- Produce data visualisations.
- Assist in monitoring developments in financing for development and the wider development policy environment.
- Provide administrative and programmatic support.
- Conduct desk-based primary research under guidance.
- Review and synthesize policy and academic literature.
- Draft blogs, presentations, policy briefs, and research papers.
- Draft summaries/notes of interviews, meetings, and conferences.
- Review literature and fact-check.
- Find, clean, merge, and analyze complex datasets (in Excel and R, Stata or Python).
- Explore, analyze, and prepare data visually and programmatically using relevant software.
- Conduct statistical analysis.
- Organize in-person and virtual events, including agendas and preparing papers.
- Participate in private and public meetings/conferences.
- Support the monitoring of research projects, including data entry into CGD’s Salesforce system.
- Liaise and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform travel booking, expense documentation, and other administrative duties.
Requirements
- A degree in a relevant discipline such as Economics, Finance, Accounting, International Development or Finance or equivalent.
- Knowledge of sustainable development finance.
- Experience in political, economic, or public policy research and analysis related to international development.
- Strong analytic skills, including some experience with data manipulation and statistical analysis (namely in Excel and R, Stata or Python).
- Commitment and curiosity in relation to the policies and issues affecting global development.
- Excellent writing and editing skills in English, with a clear and thoughtful communication style.
- Proficiency in English.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Comfort working independently, with small groups, and across senior staff.
- Self-confidence, a can-do attitude, ability to work with little supervision, love of teamwork, willingness to multitask, and a good sense of humor.
