About the Role

The Engineering Intern role is designed to prepare individuals for the heavy civil construction industry through field and office experiences. Interns will work alongside Civil, Mechanical, and Environmental Engineers in a dynamic, hands-on program.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing and delivering Tool Box Safety Talks and Daily Safety Huddles, and maintain associated records.
  • Assist with One Call Center requests to prevent utility damage during construction.
  • Maintain a retrievable filing system for the Hazardous Communication Program (MSDS).
  • Maintain the Project Safety Manual, conduct periodic jobsite safety inspections, and record findings.
  • Perform daily Quantity Reviews with the Superintendent and Job Foreman.
  • Enter daily quantities into the system and file daily sheets.
  • Track work completion on project plans.
  • Perform monthly reviews of estimates with the job Superintendent.
  • Notify the Project Manager or Area Manager of anticipated cost overruns or under-runs.
  • Maintain the General Correspondence file with a correspondence log.
  • Maintain the Shop Drawing Log.
  • Maintain the Subcontractor Daily Log.
  • Maintain the Delivery Log.
  • Accurately track Asphalt and other major material deliveries.
  • Track subcontractors working on the project monthly using the Subcontractor Daily Log.
  • Enter daily payroll information by specific task and assist in productivity tracking.
  • Maintain Job Records.
  • Track Job Codes using the Phase Code System.
  • Maintain the Request for Information (RFI) log to the owner.
  • Assist in purchasing job materials to ensure correct quantities are delivered.
  • Assist in estimating additional work.
  • Review project plans and ensure work is completed properly.
  • Assist in developing project look-ahead schedules.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering program.
  • Interest in heavy construction, including site-work, roads, or environmental projects.
