About the Role
This internship focuses on developing and integrating AI-driven automation into the battery model pipeline, aiming to streamline processes and reduce manual intervention. You will work on a live problem, shaping the company's approach to modeling and gaining hands-on experience in AI-assisted engineering and workflow automation.
Responsibilities
- Develop a working knowledge of how battery models are built, tested, and released.
- Learn to use Claude and Claude Code for engineering tasks with team guidance.
- Map the current model pipeline and identify slow, repetitive, or error-prone steps.
- Extend the team's automation prototype to increase pipeline automation.
- Build checks to pause the process and alert the appropriate person for approval or when a step fails.
- Track time saved against the current manual process and document automation effectiveness.
- Assist the modeling, embedded software, and battery teams in understanding the pipeline's integration.
- Undertake additional critical tasks for product or company success.
Requirements
- Studying towards, or a recent graduate of, a strong undergraduate or master's degree in a relevant subject (e.g., electrical or mechanical engineering, computer science). PhD students are also considered.
- Strong software and scripting skills.
- Genuine interest in automation and applying AI to practical workflows.
- Experience with coding in Python.
- Experience with good use of AI tools in development work.
- Examples of projects where a process was improved through AI automation (university or personal initiatives).
- A practical, self-directed approach.
- Confidence to ask questions when a problem is unclear.
- Team player with a proactive attitude.
- Good attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Right to work in the UK for the full internship.
- Students whose visa permits work are welcome, noting potential term-time hour caps.
