About the Role

This role will strategically lead the team responsible for implementing regulatory processes, systems, and data governance. It involves establishing and overseeing strategic programs of work, translating regulations into operational processes, systems, and data for the MHRA and stakeholders across the UK. The position holder must possess expert knowledge of UK medical devices regulations and their implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Fully responsible for providing strategic leadership for the design and implementation of systems, processes, and data governance to support medical device regulations.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of a strategy to ensure the MHRA acquires and optimally integrates and processes data necessary for a successful UK and GB medical device regulatory system.
  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead frequent engagement with key stakeholders, internally and externally, on all issues affecting policy implementation and delivery.

Requirements

  • Experience with leading the design and implementation of regulatory processes, digital tools, or data governance in a complex organization.
  • Proven track record of delivering programs involving process improvement and governance.
  • Experience of working in regulated, policy-driven, or public sector environments.
  • Experience engaging and influencing senior stakeholders across organizational boundaries.
  • Prior experience with developing service-based implementation strategies and taking them into an operational context.
  • Experience with communicating a vision, direction, plan, and key performance measures to senior stakeholders.
  • Led a leadership team of at least 5 direct reports with a team to deliver against objectives and strategy.
  • Advanced technical understanding of the medical devices regulations in the EU and UK.
  • Applicants are assessed on whether they meet any mandatory requirements as well as the necessary skills and experience for the role.

  • Candidates will be subject to UK immigration requirements as well as Civil Service nationality rules.
  • Successful candidates must pass a disclosure and barring security check as well as animal rights and pro-life activism checks.
  • People working with government assets must complete basic personnel security standard checks.
  • Successful candidates may be subject to annual Occupational Health reviews dependent on role requirements.
  • Applicants who are successful at interview will be, as part of pre-employment screening subject to a check on the Internal Fraud Database (IFD).
  • Any applicant’s details held on the IFD will be refused employment.
  • A candidate is not eligible to apply for a role within the Civil Service if the application is made within a 5-year period following a dismissal for carrying out internal fraud against government.
  • Any move to the MHRA from another employer will mean you can no longer access childcare vouchers.
  • Individuals appointed on level transfer will retain their existing salary and are responsible for ensuring they fully understand the financial implications of any potential move and the impact (if any) on their terms.
  • Staff joining on promotion will receive up to a 10% increase of their current basic salary, or the pay band minimum, whichever is the greater.
  • The individual will not retain any allowances paid by the former department/Agency, unless there are special circumstances, such as a reserved right to those allowances on transfer.
