About the Role

The Key Account Manager Biopharma (KAM) is responsible for managing strategic accounts in Japan, focusing on the Leica Microsystems Life Science portfolio for Biopharma and Clinical Research workflows. This role involves building and maintaining relationships across all account levels, with a focus on key decision-makers and KOLs, to drive profitable growth through strategic account planning and cross-functional execution.

Responsibilities

  • Own the account strategy and territory plan for strategic Biopharma and Clinical Research accounts in Japan.
  • Build and expand long-term executive relationships and a strong KOL network.
  • Drive opportunity identification, qualification, and pipeline management.
  • Lead the end-to-end sales process, including customer discovery, solution design, proposals, negotiation, and closing.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally to deliver best-in-class customer experience and execute account penetration/retention activities.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with distributors, channel partners, and strategic collaborators.
  • Build relationships with key pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology firms, CROs, and academic research institutions in Japan.
  • Represent Leica Microsystems at scientific conferences, industry events, and customer seminars.
  • Monitor market trends, competitive activities, and funding priorities in the Japanese biopharma market and translate insights into actionable account strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Bioengineering, Biotechnology or related scientific field.
  • 5–7+ years of experience in Key Account Management / Strategic Sales within life science tools, Biopharma, Clinical Research or adjacent high-tech markets.
  • Proven experience selling into Biopharma environments (e.g., biologics, cell & gene therapy, vaccines) and/or regulated laboratories (GxP).
  • Proven experience working with pharmaceutical/biotechnology, CRO, or academic research customers in Japan.
  • Experience collaborating with distributors, channel partners, or indirect sales models is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of the Japanese pharmaceutical R&D ecosystem, procurement processes, and capital equipment sales cycles.
  • Knowledge of microscopy/imaging workflows applied to Biopharma and Clinical Research (e.g., high-content imaging, digital pathology, image analysis, automation) is a plus.
