About the Role
MS Amlin is seeking a Senior Risk Analyst to join their team and manage quantitative risk across the business. This role involves all aspects of the 2nd line Risk function, with a focus on insurance and financial risk. You will collaborate with specialists, contribute to management discussions, and gain exposure to decision-making within a leading Lloyd’s syndicate. This is an opportunity to develop expertise and play a meaningful role within a high-performing Risk Function.
Responsibilities
- Deliver the Integrated Assurance Plan by agreeing review scopes, executing reviews, and producing high-quality final reports.
- Lead and contribute to risk discussions with stakeholders, offering constructive challenge and practical recommendations.
- Define and monitor risk appetite, tolerances, and key risk indicators (KRIs), reporting outcomes to management committees and the Board.
- Investigate and track risk events through to resolution.
- Provide insightful analysis on risks and controls, ensuring issues are identified, escalated, and resolved.
- Conduct deep-dive reviews into critical topics such as business planning, reinsurance purchasing, and reserving.
- Support the Validation pillar in oversight of the Internal Model.
- Contribute to the Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA), ensuring it is a value-adding tool that informs risk-based decision making.
- Partner with Compliance to coordinate the Lloyd’s PBO attestation, helping stakeholders evidence how MS Amlin meets Lloyd’s expectations.
- Represent Risk in working groups and change programmes, providing review and challenge throughout.
- Support due diligence on strategic transactions (e.g. RITC, M&A).
- Monitor emerging risks and market trends, assessing their impact on MS Amlin and the wider Lloyd’s market.
- Prepare clear, concise, and impactful risk reporting for management and Board committees.
- Support the development and performance management of junior team members.
- Champion a culture of risk awareness, acting as a role model within the Risk function.
- Contribute to the Risk & Compliance Knowledge Management pillar, raising awareness of risk management across the organisation.
- Lead on 2nd line functional objectives, collaborating across pillars to deliver shared goals (e.g. away days, team meetings, inter-departmental projects).
- Periodically support wider initiatives and delivery across the 2nd line function that sit outside of primary responsibilities.
Requirements
- Actuarial experience in Underwriting/Portfolio Management or Reserving/Capital or demonstrable experience driving Insurance Risk deliverables
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to generate data-driven insights.
- Ability to connect themes across different areas, identify interdependencies, and apply a commercial lens to balance risk and reward.
- Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to challenge constructively and influence decisions.
- Strong written and presentation skills, capable of engaging senior stakeholders and ensuring the ‘risk voice’ is heard.
- Sound judgement, including knowing when to escalate versus resolve matters directly.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise effectively.
- Strong execution skills and resilience under pressure and change.
