About the Role

The Wellcome Trust is seeking a Technology Lead, Discovery (Data Linkage and Data Architecture) to advance data linkage and architecture in support of Wellcome’s Discovery strategy. This role involves leading high-impact data and technology initiatives from concept to delivery, fostering research collaborations, and shaping strategic priorities to maximize the impact of the Discovery Data for Science and Health team.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop funding opportunities in data linkage, data architecture, and digital technologies supporting Wellcome’s Discovery strategy.
  • Build an expert understanding of the health data landscape, particularly in the UK, to inform investment decisions and shape strategic priorities.
  • Lead and deliver funding activities, including landscape reviews, funding calls, and requests for proposals.
  • Develop strong partnerships with researchers, funders, industry, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Discovery, Solutions, Equity, and Policy teams to align priorities and strengthen data and digital technology investments.
  • Provide leadership and oversight across key initiatives, ensuring high-quality outputs, managing risks and budgets, and contributing to an inclusive team culture.

Requirements

  • Strong background in health data, scientific research, or digital technologies.
  • Deep understanding of the UK health data landscape and its potential to advance science and health research.
  • Comfortable leading complex projects and building relationships across research, funding, and industry communities.
  • Ability to use technical expertise to shape strategic decisions.
  • Curious, collaborative, and adaptable with excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of current trends in data linkage, data architecture, and digital technologies in science and health research.
  • Experience working with health-relevant or scientific data in a technical and/or strategic capacity.
  • Deep domain knowledge of the UK health data landscape, including key institutions, initiatives, and infrastructure.
  • Ability to manage relationships with key partners and stakeholders in the UK health data space.
