About the Role

Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver backend features end to end, from API design and implementation to deployment, monitoring, and operational support.
  • Lead the architecture and evolution of EPI’s cloud-based microservices, ensuring scalability, performance, security, and alignment with mobile and business needs.
  • Define and uphold high code quality standards, applying best practices for maintainable and testable services.
  • Support frontend engineers with backend expertise, guidance on API usage, data contracts, and performance considerations.
  • Drive backend platform decisions with a clear understanding of current product requirements and future growth.
  • Balance platform consistency with web-specific needs, making pragmatic technical trade-offs.
  • Improve backend reliability, developer experience, and delivery speed for mobile and platform teams.
  • Collaborate with product management, design, frontend, QA, and other backend teams to ensure aligned and efficient delivery.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional experience in software development, including at least 5 years of backend development.
  • Proven experience building scalable system architectures, using modern design patterns and REST API design, with a commitment to clear technical documentation.
  • Ability to recognise and implement effective automated tests at appropriate levels.
  • Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of features, with the ability to collaborate across teams with minimal guidance.
  • Experience with frontend technologies and willingness to contribute to frontend tasks would be a plus.
