About the Role

This is a 12-month role within the Children, Families and Education (CFE) directorate, also contributing to the Lambeth Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) research team. The postholder will lead the development of a research culture within CFE, ensuring research, evidence, and data inform service improvement, policy development, and decision-making. The role combines children's services expertise with research leadership to make Lambeth a more evidence-driven organization focused on improving outcomes and reducing inequalities for children and young people.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver a research strategy and programme for Children and Families Services, collaborating with practitioners, community organizations, academics, and other stakeholders.
  • Design and manage research projects, evaluations, and evidence reviews to enhance services and outcomes for children and young people.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with academic partners, including King’s College London and London South Bank University, to support research activity and knowledge exchange.
  • Identify funding opportunities and contribute to high-quality research grant applications and funding bids.
  • Publish and present research findings to internal and external audiences, facilitating the translation of evidence into practice.
  • Support the development of research standards, guidance, training, and tools to build research capacity across Children and Families Services and the wider council.
  • Supervise and mentor research staff, assistants, and interns as appropriate.
  • Monitor national policy developments affecting children and young people, identifying implications for local services and contributing to strategic planning.
  • Contribute to the wider HDRC programme by strengthening research infrastructure and embedding evidence-based practice across the council.

Requirements

  • CV and supporting statement must clearly evidence how the candidate meets the shortlisting criteria marked 'A' on the personal specification.
  • Successful candidates will be asked to apply for an Enhanced Certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
  • Candidates will be required to undertake a Cifas check.

Salary/Compensations

  • Starting salary £54,360 pa. rising in annual increment to maximum salary of £57,495 pa. including LW.
