About the Role
Launch your career in public policy economics with NSW Treasury, the NSW Government’s financial and economic adviser. The Career Launch Program for Associate Economists is a 12-month program offering placements in different areas, training sessions, mentorship, and opportunities to influence policy development and government decision-making. Participants will gain exposure to a broad range of work and economic policy issues, develop their professional network, and build a well-rounded understanding of public policy career pathways. Upon completion, participants move to ongoing teams within Treasury.
Responsibilities
- Placements in two different areas within the Economic Strategy and Productivity Group.
- Participate in regular training sessions covering economics for public policy, problem-solving, and career development.
- Engage with mentors regularly.
- Play a role in informing policy development and government decision-making.
- Gain exposure to a broad range of work and economic policy issues.
- Develop professional networks.
- Build a well-rounded understanding of career pathways in public policy.
Requirements
- Completed or due to complete an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., economics, public policy, or a related field) by January 2027.
- Available to commence employment on February 1, 2027.
- Must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia.
- Provide a concise, up-to-date resume detailing relevant knowledge, skills, and experience.
- Provide your most recent academic transcript.
- Provide responses to several pre-screening questions.
- Do not include a separate cover letter.
- May be contacted for a pre-screening interview.
- Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an in-person assessment center for interviews and assessments.
- NSW Treasury does not provide relocation expenses.
- NSW Treasury cannot support employer-sponsored work visas.
- Internships are not offered.
