About the Role

SMT is seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to join their Customer Support team. This role involves providing maintenance, diagnostics, and repair services for Volvo construction equipment to customers across Kent, Horsham, Rochester, Chatham, and surrounding areas. The position is field-based, requiring independent work on customer sites while building strong relationships and acting as a technical expert.

Responsibilities

Servicing, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing Volvo construction equipment and associated machinery.
Identifying and resolving mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine-related faults using technical expertise and diagnostic equipment.
Acting as the primary point of contact for customers, providing updates on machine status, repair progress, and recommended actions.
Completing all job documentation, inspection reports, timesheets, and electronic records accurately and in real time.
Maintaining high standards of safety, professionalism, housekeeping, and compliance with company policies and procedures.

Requirements

NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural Engineering, HGV Maintenance, or a related engineering discipline.
Proven experience maintaining and repairing heavy construction plant.
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, drivetrains, electrics, and diagnostic systems.
Advanced fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently in a field-based environment.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Confidence to build effective working relationships.
A full UK driving licence.
Flexibility to travel, work overtime, and support customer requirements.
Must have the permanent right to work in the UK.
