About the Role

Based at Sydney's Head Office in Barangaroo with a hybrid working pattern on offer, we are seeking experienced In-House Senior Legal Counsel to partner with the business providing expert strategic legal advice and counsel on legal matters affecting the operations of GrainCorp Limited and its subsidiaries.
Responsibilities
- Partner proactively with business leaders to understand strategic priorities, objectives, challenges, and risks.
- Serve as a trusted advisor, building strong and effective relationships with key stakeholders, including the Executive Leadership Team and senior leaders across the business.
- Drive continuous improvement within the legal team by enhancing processes and ways of working, enabling the team to focus on high-value, strategic work.
- Collaborate with business teams to deliver outcomes that support GrainCorp's functional and divisional strategic objectives.
- Provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice, effectively managing legal risk while supporting business objectives and delivering practical solutions.
Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in law and current practicing certificate in NSW or other Australian state or territory.
- Minimum of 7-8 years’ experience post-admission in-house or in private practice, preferably with secondment experience.
- Demonstrated legal expertise in commercial contracting & the provision of pragmatic legal advice within complex & regulated environments.
- Strong understanding of relevant legislative & regulatory frameworks, including competition & consumer law, safety and environmental regulation, privacy & industry codes of practice.
- Experience advising on matters relating to rail, construction, infrastructure, logistics, or other operationally intensive industries would be advantageous but is not essential.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted & effective relationships across all levels of the organisation.
- Advanced drafting, negotiation & organisational skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Intellectually curious, commercially minded & genuinely interested in understanding how the business operates & creates value.
- Able to work autonomously, manage complex matters independently, exercise sound judgement & provide constructive challenge when required.
- A willingness to go above & beyond when required to support the business, team members & achievement of key objectives.
- A collaborative team player who contributes positively to team culture, shares knowledge & supports the development & success of colleagues.
