About the Role

As a working student in Asset Performance Management, you will support the continuous development of the economic viability, efficiency, and future viability of our generation and district heating portfolio. You will gain deep insights into a company with a public service mandate and how the gears of energy supply and transformation interact with other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze technical, economic, and regulatory issues related to our power plant, storage, and district heating facilities.
  • Independently identify optimization potential and develop data-based solutions for operations, maintenance, and investments.
  • Process, model, and visualize large technical and energy economic data sets in Power BI, Excel, and other analysis tools.
  • Support economic, sensitivity, and scenario analyses for existing and future facilities.
  • Participate in optimization and flexibilization projects and evaluate their technical and economic impacts.
  • Analyze interrelationships between plant technology, thermodynamics, infrastructure, energy economics, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Create benchmarks, management reports, and decision proposals for various stakeholders up to the management level.
  • Collaborate closely with operations engineers, asset managers, energy economists, project teams, and external partners.
  • Critically question existing procedures and contribute own ideas for improving processes, models, and tools.
  • Support the further development of data-driven strategic asset management for the heat transition in Berlin.

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree and be currently pursuing a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Energy Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Business Physics, or a comparable field of study.
  • Possess very good analytical skills and enjoy systematically analyzing complex issues.
  • Think abstractly, recognize interrelationships across disciplines, and develop pragmatic solutions for previously unknown problems.
  • Critically question issues and demonstrate a high degree of initiative and willingness to learn.
  • Have initial knowledge in at least one of the following areas: energy economics and energy markets, power plant and plant technology, thermodynamics and energy technology, energy infrastructure and district heating systems, energy policy and regulatory frameworks.
  • Have experience with Power BI, Excel, or comparable tools for data analysis and visualization.
  • Ideally have initial experience in data modeling, programming (e.g., Python, SQL, DAX), or simulations.
  • Be able to present complex issues understandably and communicate them appropriately to the target audience.
  • Work in a structured, self-reliant manner and maintain an overview even with extensive data sets or complex problems.
  • Desire to understand and actively shape the interrelationships between technology, economic viability, regulation, and energy system transformation.
  • Strive to achieve excellent results rather than just completing tasks.
  • Possess fluent German language skills, both written and spoken.
