About the Role

As a Transmission System Operator Sr at the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA), you will join a highly skilled team responsible for maintaining the smooth operation of our transmission grid. This role offers the opportunity to work with modern technology in a dynamic and cooperative environment, where your knowledge and drive will contribute to advancing our mission. You will play a critical role in maintaining the reliability and stability of the LCRA transmission grid, from real-time system operation and control to emergency restoration, impacting public safety, economic continuity, and grid resilience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, monitor, and evaluate real-time operation and control of the LCRA transmission grid to ensure it meets demand while maintaining system parameters within prescribed limits.
  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience, providing mentorship and direction.
  • Write, approve, perform, and coordinate switching of LCRA TSC, customer, and leased transmission lines, along with other utilities, ensuring safe and efficient power restoration.
  • Restore service through SCADA and dispatch of field personnel, minimizing customer outage time and restoring system integrity.
  • Ensure timely communications on all transmission events to LCRA System Operations management, LCRA Customers, and ERCOT.
  • Review written logs pertaining to daily events to ensure accurate documentation and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor weather conditions to ensure system operations readiness during adverse weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Seven or more years of experience in real-time operation and/or field operations and/or control of electric transmission and/or distribution systems, transmission equipment field operations, power plant operations or relevant experience.
  • A degree(s) in electrical engineering technology, electrical technology, electronics, or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
  • Fluent in the English language.
  • NERC System Operator Certification or equivalent.

Skills

  • Commitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous learning.
  • Strong understanding of transmission systems, electrical fundamentals, and grid operations.
  • Ability to analyze complex, fast-moving situations and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Skilled in interpreting one-line diagrams, system data, and operating procedures.
  • Effective communicator who can coordinate clearly across teams and external partners.
  • Working knowledge of EMS/SCADA systems and real-time grid monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with ERCOT protocols and NERC reliability standards including ERCOT Energy Emergency Alerts (EEA).
  • Ability to work and stay attentive throughout a twelve-hour shift on weekends, holidays, and non-standard hours at a sit/stand workstation.
  • Frequent finger/hand manipulation in using a keyboard and mouse.
