About the Role

The Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine is seeking a full-time research laboratory technician to assist with ongoing research projects, including a clinical trial focused on vaginal treatments to improve the vaginal microbiome and menopausal vaginal symptoms.

Responsibilities

  • Routine processing of human biospecimens for long-term storage.
  • Maintenance of accurate records of sample collection, processing, and inventory.
  • Isolation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC).
  • Performing routine ELISAs and multiplex Luminex assays on clinical samples.
  • Maintaining bacterial cultures.
  • Performing routine RT-PCR on clinical samples.
  • Performing immunohistochemistry on tissue samples.
  • Following established laboratory protocols and safety procedures.
  • Performing technical procedures with occasional guidance.
  • Collecting, recording, and organizing scientific data using computerized software.
  • Assisting with basic data analysis as directed.
  • Maintaining laboratory inventory by monitoring routine supplies.
  • Assisting with ordering laboratory supplies.
  • Ensuring proper storage and disposal of laboratory materials.
  • Assisting with maintaining laboratory organization, equipment, and documentation.
  • Training or guiding other lab members (rarely).
  • Analyzing data (occasionally).
  • Interpreting data (rarely).

Requirements

  • B.S. and B.A. degree in Biology or related science or equivalent skills and experience.
  • 0-2 years of experience required.
  • Working knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and safety measures is required.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team is essential.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
  • Expertise in basic computer software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
  • Must be willing to work on multiple projects.
