About the Role
The Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine is seeking a full-time research laboratory technician to assist with ongoing research projects, including a clinical trial focused on vaginal treatments to improve the vaginal microbiome and menopausal vaginal symptoms.
Responsibilities
- Routine processing of human biospecimens for long-term storage.
- Maintenance of accurate records of sample collection, processing, and inventory.
- Isolation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC).
- Performing routine ELISAs and multiplex Luminex assays on clinical samples.
- Maintaining bacterial cultures.
- Performing routine RT-PCR on clinical samples.
- Performing immunohistochemistry on tissue samples.
- Following established laboratory protocols and safety procedures.
- Performing technical procedures with occasional guidance.
- Collecting, recording, and organizing scientific data using computerized software.
- Assisting with basic data analysis as directed.
- Maintaining laboratory inventory by monitoring routine supplies.
- Assisting with ordering laboratory supplies.
- Ensuring proper storage and disposal of laboratory materials.
- Assisting with maintaining laboratory organization, equipment, and documentation.
- Training or guiding other lab members (rarely).
- Analyzing data (occasionally).
- Interpreting data (rarely).
Requirements
- B.S. and B.A. degree in Biology or related science or equivalent skills and experience.
- 0-2 years of experience required.
- Working knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and safety measures is required.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team is essential.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
- Expertise in basic computer software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
- Must be willing to work on multiple projects.
