About the Role

The Nurse Educator provides effective educational programming to meet the dynamic needs of Bassett’s nursing staff, supporting optimal, evidence-based nursing practice through educational strategies that promote positive learning and clinical competency.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes creative and innovative strategies to address educational needs of nursing staff
  • Performs learning needs assessments for both individuals and groups, using data to identify issues and trends
  • Develops, revises and implements orientation programs for new staff
  • Collaborates with unit clinical leaders and managers to monitor progress of newly hired nursing staff
  • Develops clinical unit-based educational plans in consultation with nursing leaders
  • Demonstrates knowledge of curriculum development
  • Designs, implements and evaluates educational programs for nursing staff to assure clinical competency
  • Utilizes creative strategies consistent with adult education principles
  • Demonstrates use of multiple effective teaching-learning methods
  • Develops, coordinates and implements educational programs for changes in practice, systems, workflows or equipment
  • Plans and coordinates Continuing Education programs and serves as a Nurse Planner for the Provider Unit
  • Maintains knowledge of regulatory requirements for nursing staff education and competency
  • Develops and implements nursing staff development initiatives
  • Plans and implements an effective clinical preceptor program
  • Coordinates on-going competency assessment and validation processes
  • Assists staff with educational resources for specialty practice certification or career development
  • Effectively coaches nursing staff for improvement of practice, career development, or clinical advancement
  • Collaborates with faculty from affiliated nursing schools and unit managers to coordinate student clinical placements
  • Promotes patient-centered and evidence-based care
  • Maintains and improves clinical skills and proficiency, role models evidence-based practice
  • Promotes evidence-based nursing practice through incorporation of research findings
  • Offers timely consultation to nursing staff relative to patient care issues
  • Role models, promotes and teaches service-oriented behaviors and communication
  • Develops and implements educational programs to improve patient outcomes
  • Identifies issues requiring nursing or interdisciplinary research and promotes or participates in these activities
  • Functions as a change agent and organizational clinical leader
  • Responds to organizational strategic plans or changes in nursing practice to develop, implement and evaluate educational programs
  • Contributes to the development of standards of nursing practices
  • Participates in professional practice activities and multidisciplinary institutional committees
  • Leads committees, work groups or teams in project management
  • Promotes a safe and healthy work environment
  • Performs other duties as requested

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Experience with increasing staff development or leadership responsibility, preferred
  • Current NYS Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse
  • BLS Certification
