About the Role

This role will lead commercial strategy development across Bayer’s Cardiovascular (CV) pipeline, supporting early-, mid-, and late-stage assets. The successful candidate will shape differentiated asset strategies, inform portfolio choices, and strengthen launch readiness to drive Bayer’s long-term CV growth. This leader will leverage deep CV TA-Area expertise, strong executive presence, and influence across a complex, matrixed environment. The role requires an external-facing strategic leader with broad industry perspective across biopharma, healthcare innovation, competitive pipeline dynamics, and evolving commercial models. The candidate will challenge internal assumptions and benchmark Bayer’s pipeline and asset strategies against external best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of integrated commercial strategies for CV pipeline assets across early, mid, and late stages of development.
  • Lead commercial assessment of partnering opportunities.
  • Bring an outside-in perspective by systematically benchmarking Bayer’s pipeline strategies, asset value propositions, launch assumptions, and portfolio choices against leading industry competitors.
  • Provide strategic commercial input on disease area opportunity, competitive landscape, unmet need, treatment paradigm evolution, patient journey, and market access considerations.
  • Partner closely with R&D, BD&L medical affairs, market access, finance, business development, and regional and local commercial teams to shape development and commercialization plans.
  • Inform key governance decisions through robust commercial assessments, including indication prioritization, lifecycle strategy, portfolio trade-offs, and investment decisions.
  • Support development of launch strategies and launch readiness plans, including market shaping, stakeholder engagement, access strategy, and organizational preparedness.
  • Drive portfolio prioritization discussions by evaluating commercial attractiveness, strategic fit, competitive intensity, and execution feasibility.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree such as MBA, MPH, PharmD, PhD, MD, or other relevant graduate degree.
  • Robust prior experience in a leading strategy consulting firm serving pharmaceutical or biotechnology clients, ideally combined with subsequent operating experience in biopharma and/or comparable significant experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry in commercial strategy, new product planning, pipeline strategy, portfolio strategy, marketing.
  • Background in CV new product planning, global marketing, or portfolio management with exposure to both US and other key global markets.
  • Experience supporting or leading pre-launch and launch readiness for CV products.
  • Strong understanding of drug development, commercialization planning, launch strategy, and market access.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in complex, matrixed organizations with global and cross-regional stakeholders.
  • Excellent strategic, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Outstanding communication, executive presence, stakeholder management, and leadership skills, including leading teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
