About the Role

This role plays a key part in strengthening Medibank's oversight and management of strategic and financial risks, helping to ensure business objectives are achieved within risk appetite while supporting long-term organisational resilience and performance. You will partner with stakeholders across the business to provide specialist strategic and financial risk advice, independent oversight and constructive challenge. You will support the ongoing evolution of Medibank's strategic and financial risk frameworks, while contributing to key enterprise risk initiatives and decision-making processes.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and continuous improvement of strategic and financial risk frameworks, methodologies, risk appetite measures and reporting practices.
  • Provide independent oversight and constructive challenge on strategic initiatives, business plans, portfolio performance, projects, investments and emerging risk exposures.
  • Facilitate and support strategic and financial risk assessments, workshops and scenario analysis activities.
  • Monitor strategic and financial risks, emerging trends and external developments that may impact Medibank's objectives and performance.
  • Consider climate-related risks as part of the risk taxonomy, assessment methodology, reporting and integration with financial risk oversight, where relevant.
  • Conduct horizon scanning and risk analysis to identify opportunities and threats arising from market, regulatory, technology and competitive changes.
  • Prepare high-quality risk insights, reporting and governance materials for senior leaders and risk committees.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to embed strategic and financial risk considerations into planning, decision-making and execution monitoring processes.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in Strategic Risk, Financial Risk, Enterprise Risk Management or related disciplines within a heavily regulated industry such as banking, insurance, health insurance or broader financial services.
  • Experience working within, or partnering closely with, Second Line Risk functions in an APRA-regulated environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of climate risk, or a strong willingness to rapidly upskill in climate risk.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise risk management principles, risk appetite frameworks and strategic risk oversight practices.
  • Experience facilitating risk assessments, workshops, scenario analysis and emerging risk activities.
  • Ability to analyse complex information, identify key risk themes and communicate insights to a range of stakeholders.
  • Strong stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills, with the ability to build credibility and provide constructive challenge.
