About the Role

The Money Movement team builds and evolves important payment experiences within the CommBank app, helping millions of customers move and manage their money securely and confidently. As a Staff Software Engineer – Mobile, you’ll provide senior technical leadership and shape the architecture and evolution of mobile payment capabilities. This is an opportunity to influence beyond the codebase. You will mentor engineers, uplift capability across the mobile engineering community and partner with Product, Design, Security and backend teams to deliver outstanding customer outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Set and champion the strategic technical direction for Android, including architecture, platform evolution, framework upgrades and migration pathways.
  • Own full-cycle engineering delivery from ideation and design through to build, testing, release and production support.
  • Modernise customer payment experiences and help evolve legacy mobile components towards more reusable and scalable solutions.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Security, backend and engineering teams to deliver secure, reliable and consistent customer journeys.
  • Champion engineering practices across architecture, automated testing, continuous integration and delivery, performance, security and observability.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership, contributing expert advice to delivery planning and solving complex engineering challenges.
  • Mentor engineers and uplift Android capability across the wider mobile engineering community.
  • Influence end-to-end solutions spanning the CommBank app, APIs and cloud services.

Requirements

  • Experienced Android engineer who combines deep technical expertise with the ability to influence architecture, engineering practices and delivery outcomes.
  • Enjoy working collaboratively, taking ownership and helping other engineers grow.
  • Deep Android development experience using Kotlin, the Android SDK and Jetpack Compose.
  • Strong knowledge of mobile architecture, including MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture and modular design.
  • Experience with dependency injection, object-oriented design, SOLID principles and established software design patterns.
  • Proven delivery of secure and reliable mobile applications, supported by automated testing, continuous delivery and production observability.
  • Experience integrating REST or GraphQL APIs and working with cloud services such as AWS.
  • Ability to lead technical decisions, constructively challenge existing approaches and build support for strategic engineering direction.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and improving capability, quality and engineering practices across teams.
