About the Role

Lead the day-to-day operations of the Histology Laboratory, driving an efficient service. Utilize Histology expertise across all bench areas, supporting workflow and service delivery. Supervise, mentor, and develop scientific and technical staff, fostering a positive team culture. Ensure high standards of specimen processing, quality assurance, accreditation, and patient-focused diagnostic services. Monitor workflow, turnaround times, and KPIs, identifying opportunities for process improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the day-to-day operations of the Histology Laboratory and drive a high-performing, efficient service.
  • Use strong Histology expertise across all bench areas while supporting workflow and service delivery when required.
  • Supervise, mentor and build the capability of scientific and technical staff, fostering a positive and collaborative team culture.
  • Ensure the highest standards of specimen processing, quality assurance, accreditation and patient-focused diagnostic services.
  • Monitor workflow, turnaround times and KPIs while identifying opportunities to improve processes, systems and overall laboratory performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (or equivalent)
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a Histology Laboratory Supervisor or equivalent leadership role.
  • Strong practical and theoretical knowledge of histotechnology, with confidence working across Histology bench areas and supporting day-to-day laboratory operations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams, including rostering, workload allocation, training, competency assessments and developing high-performing staff.
  • Strong understanding of NATA accreditation, quality assurance and quality control within an Anatomical Pathology environment, with a commitment to maintaining the highest laboratory standards.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Sound knowledge of LIS and laboratory technology.
  • Passion for continuous improvement, workplace safety and exceptional patient care.
