About the Role
The Mess Hall is looking for skilled and versatile Cashiers to join our front-of-house team. This is a fast-paced, guest-facing role focused primarily on taking accurate and efficient orders from customers for food, beverages, and market items while providing friendly and attentive service. The Cashier will work closely with managers, bartenders, and the rest of the FOH team to ensure orders are entered accurately, guests are taken care of efficiently, and service runs smoothly throughout the shift.
Responsibilities
- Take customer orders for food, beverages, and market items throughout the shift.
- Enter orders accurately and efficiently into the POS system.
- Process customer payments and provide friendly, attentive service.
- Ensure orders are rung in accurately to the kitchen.
- Use Toast POS to enter orders, process transactions, and assist with other cashier functions.
- Check IDs and follow all applicable California alcohol-service and age-verification requirements when taking alcohol orders.
- Work closely with managers and bartenders to keep service organized and efficient.
- Answer customer questions about menu items, beverages, and market offerings.
- Assist guests with special requests and communicate any issues to management.
- Help keep the cashier counter clean and organized.
Requirements
- Previous cashier, restaurant, hospitality, retail, or customer service experience preferred.
- Familiarity with Toast POS is a plus.
- California RBS certification or ability to obtain is required for employees taking alcohol orders at the counter.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working as part of a team.
- Able to work quickly and stay organized in a busy restaurant environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when taking and entering orders.
- Comfortable handling cash, credit card transactions, and other forms of payment.
- Friendly, professional, and comfortable interacting with a wide variety of guests.
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to frequently bend, reach, twist, and move throughout a shift.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions is needed.
