About the Role
Albany Technical College seeks a qualified individual to guide students in identifying potential programs of study and career choices. This role involves delivering academic advisement, information, registration, and services to students, assisting with academic plans, and making referrals to campus services.
Responsibilities
- Guide students in identifying potential programs of study and career choices.
- Deliver academic advisement, information, registration, and services to students.
- Identify student success barriers and suggest effective success alternatives.
- Assist students with the development of individual academic plans, academic requirements, and course selection.
- Assess educational needs of students and make appropriate referrals to campus services.
- Collect and analyze data to determine student aptitude.
- Navigate the catalog to assist with understanding scheduling.
- Interpret placement and test scores.
- Interpret degree audits and recommend courses.
- Complete administrative reports.
- Assist with graduation related processes.
- Update student files.
- Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field.
- Coordinate communications with students regarding advisement, academic calendar, registration, and other related issues.
- Stay abreast of changing institutional information.
- Provide job placement services.
- Conduct career readiness workshops.
- Assist students with portfolio creation, résumé writing, and interviewing skills.
- Provide employment referral services and follow-up services to employers and applicants.
- Provide ongoing labor market information.
- Perform job development.
- Consult and interact with employers, other community job placement personnel, and local employment agencies.
- Assist with special event planning, projects, and activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Operate effectively within the organizational structure.

- Serve as a contributing member on committees.
- Consistently follow approved local, state, and federal student confidentiality guidelines.
- Exercise skills in communication (oral, written), computer, time management, organization, and planning.
- Maintain professional interpersonal relationships.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- Two (2) years of related work experience.
- Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
- Master’s Degree in Education, Human Services, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or other related field (Preferred).
- More than three (3) years’ professional experience working at an accredited, public, two (2) year institution of higher education (Preferred).
- Display a high level of professional effort and commitment to performing work.
- Self-directed and take initiative.
- Possess the ability to work in a high-traffic environment.
- Exhibit excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Exhibit innovation and creativity toward the achievement of goals and the College mission.
- Pre-employment criminal background investigation.

- Proof of Selective Service Registration for males aged 18-26.
