About the Role

Arc of Onondaga is seeking compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. DSPs provide hands-on assistance, instruction, encouragement, and guidance in program and community settings, helping the people we support achieve greater independence and live fulfilling lives.

Responsibilities

  • Work with individuals to plan, coordinate, and participate in social, recreational, and community activities.
  • Provide care, support, and guidance to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in program and community settings.
  • Support individuals in directing the course of their own lives while promoting advocacy, self-confidence, choice, and independence.
  • Promote the emotional, physical, and personal well-being of the people receiving support.
  • Assist individuals with daily tasks, routines, and activities.
  • Support individuals in developing essential life skills, including money management, shopping, household tasks, and other skills that promote independence.
  • Assist with personal care and hygiene as needed.
  • Build positive, respectful relationships while encouraging individuals to participate fully in their communities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A valid New York State driver's license is required.
  • A compassionate, dependable, and person-centered approach.
  • An interest in supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
