About the Role

Method is seeking its first Design Engineer, a hybrid role blending coding expertise with a strong talent for product, visual, and motion design. This individual will partner with the Head of Design to elevate the craft across all web properties, including the website, design system, demos, and product. The role involves setting aesthetic direction, making technical decisions, and shipping high-quality work, ensuring Method's visual identity reflects its developer-first, precise, and technically credible nature.

Responsibilities

  • Own the visual and interactive quality of Method's design system, including component states, motion, and consistency.
  • Build shader-based experiences for the website using Three.js and WebGL, including hero sections, ambient motion, and interactive moments.
  • Redesign and elevate the dashboard with considered transitions, polished data visualization, and generative UI components.
  • Architect a component library for dynamic, on-the-fly UI construction.
  • Make and communicate tradeoffs between bespoke work and existing tooling.
  • Reduce reliance on contractors for production design and front-end UI work.
  • Collaborate on design direction and potentially scope and hire adjacent design talent.

Requirements

  • Shipped interactive web work requiring shaders (Three.js, WebGL, GLSL).
  • Understand the full stack from GPU rendering to React component architecture.
  • Possess strong aesthetic opinions and the technical range to execute them independently.
  • Built production design systems and component libraries.
  • Comfortable as an individual contributor who defaults to building.
  • Experience at places with genuine design craft (design studios, developer tooling companies, creative agencies, or strong indie dev work).
  • Comfortable being the sole specialist in this area and making progress without extensive structure.
  • Depth and quality of experience are valued over years of experience.
