About the Role

Blue Owl Insurance Solutions (BOIS) is seeking a Chief Operating Officer to build and lead its operating platform. This role will focus on data infrastructure, reporting, investment processes, organizational structure, and day-to-day coordination with corporate functions. The COO will translate strategic agendas into executable workstreams and scalable processes for a rapidly growing insurance business.

Responsibilities

  • Own the data architecture supporting BOIS, establishing a single source of truth for client, mandate, portfolio, and performance data.
  • Define and execute the data and technology roadmap for the business, including portfolio and mandate management systems and insurance-specific analytics tooling.
  • Build and maintain the reporting capability serving insurance clients, including performance, holdings, look-through, and guideline compliance reporting.
  • Oversee the data and reporting requirements unique to insurers, including statutory and regulatory reporting support, capital and risk-charge analytics, and rating agency information requests.
  • Establish internal management reporting and KPIs – AUM and fee-earning AUM, mandate activity, flows, and revenue – delivering insight and recommendations.
  • Drive automation and control across reporting processes, reducing manual production and strengthening data quality, lineage, and reconciliation.
  • Own the operating design of the investment process across BOIS, including pipeline management, allocation, approval workflows, and investment committee cadence, materials, and documentation.
  • Own the operating model for separately managed accounts, including mandate design, implementation, and the investment workflows supporting client-specific portfolios.
  • Establish the framework for SMA investment guideline monitoring, exception management, and client-specific constraints, in partnership with Compliance and Portfolio Management.
  • Coordinate the interface between BOIS and Blue Owl's investment platforms to ensure insurance mandates are sourced, allocated, and implemented efficiently.
  • Define the organizational structure of the business: roles, responsibilities, decision rights, and escalation paths.
  • Own the operating rhythm of the business, including leadership meetings and quarterly business reviews – setting agendas, driving decisions, and tracking follow-through.
  • Serve as a key partner to sales and client coverage teams in delivering a seamless onboarding experience, driving operational workstreams from mandate award through account set-up, funding, and first reporting cycle.
  • Build a repeatable onboarding framework covering documentation, KYC and AML, account and custody set-up, systems and data configuration, guideline coding, and reporting build-out.
  • Coordinate onboarding workstreams across Legal, Operations, Technology, Portfolio Management, and external parties.
  • Establish onboarding timelines and service standards, tracking progress and resolving bottlenecks.
  • Partner with sales and client coverage teams to drive the ongoing client service model, including recurring reporting cycles, ad hoc client requests, and periodic mandate reviews.
  • Partner with sales and client coverage teams to drive the production of client and prospect presentation materials, ensuring a consistent, high-quality narrative.
  • Maintain the underlying content library used in client-facing materials, including track record, performance, and platform data.
  • Support the sales function on new client pursuits, including responses to requests for proposal, due diligence questionnaires, and prospective client information requests.
  • Assess the operational feasibility of prospective mandates – structuring, data, reporting, and servicing requirements – and surface implications before terms are committed.
  • Own the cadence, content, and production of management updates from BOIS to Blue Owl's Co-CEOs, Executive Committee, and senior leadership.
  • Prepare Executive Committee and senior management materials covering BOIS performance, growth, capital deployment, and progress against strategic priorities.
  • Develop a consistent reporting framework for the business so that executive updates draw on the same data and metrics used to run it day to day.
  • Support the CEO of Insurance Solutions in preparing for firmwide leadership forums, earnings-related discussions, and other senior stakeholder engagements.
  • Translate business performance into clear, decision-oriented analysis and recommendations for a C-suite audience.
  • Serve as the primary point of connectivity between BOIS and Blue Owl's corporate teams, ensuring the business is well served by firmwide functions and consistent with firm standards.
  • Partner with Accounting and Finance on budgeting, expense management, forecasting, revenue attribution, fee calculation and billing, profitability analysis, and fund and account-level accounting support.
  • Partner with Human Capital on workforce planning and headcount for the business; hiring, onboarding, compensation planning, performance management, and talent development.
  • Partner with Technology on system selection, implementation, integration, and support; prioritize the BOIS technology investment agenda and drive adoption.
  • Manage third-party service providers and vendor oversight supporting insurance mandates and reporting.
  • Represent BOIS in firmwide operating committees and lead integration of acquisitions or new platforms affecting the insurance business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, economics, engineering, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of experience across business management, investment operations, COO or chief of staff roles, or a similar capacity, preferably within asset management, insurance, or financial services.
  • Deep experience with investment data infrastructure and client reporting, including systems selection and implementation, data governance, and building reporting capabilities from the ground up.
  • Direct experience operating separately managed accounts or institutional mandates, including onboarding, guideline monitoring, and bespoke client reporting.
  • Working knowledge of the insurance and / or insurance asset management landscape – insurer investment objectives, statutory accounting, capital and regulatory frameworks, and rating agency considerations – strongly preferred.
  • Experience producing client-facing and executive-level presentation materials, including institutional due diligence and RFP responses.
  • Demonstrated experience driving institutional client onboarding, including account set-up, funding, and the build-out of client-specific reporting.
  • Demonstrated success building and scaling the operating infrastructure of a high-growth business.
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience owning budgets, forecasts, and headcount planning.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence senior stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce and present executive-quality materials.
  • Strong judgment and discretion in handling confidential and commercially sensitive matters.
  • Decisive under pressure, comfortable with ambiguity, and able to balance strategic priorities with hands-on execution in a lean team environment.
  • Strong leadership presence, with a track record of attracting, developing, and retaining high-performing talent.
