About the Role
This role puts you in the room with the CEO, shaping how a fast-growing energy company operates. As Senior Counsel, you'll own the company's legal affairs end-to-end, advising various teams, negotiating agreements, and managing disputes and risks. This role touches every part of the business, offering real ownership and a direct line to leadership.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted advisor on all legal matters for internal stakeholders.
- Manage the departmental budget.
- Provide forward-looking, pragmatic legal guidance to Executive, Sales, Marketing, Residential, and Commercial teams to ensure compliance.
- Lead the drafting, review, and negotiation of agreements, including installation agreements, terms and conditions for solar, HVAC, and generator sales, construction agreements for Commercial & Industrial, material procurement contracts, and marketing, consulting, and service agreements.
- Manage escalated customer disputes and litigation matters, including cancellations, liens, and collections.
- Oversee the company's vendor onboarding process, including negotiating vendor agreements and managing the relationship with our third-party onboarding partner.
- Partner with outside legal counsel to support the company's growth and interests.
- Support the Executive team on key strategic projects, high-profile issues, and our mission and values.
- Develop and enforce legal guidelines and in-house policies that uphold legal and ethical standards.
- Assist with corporate secretarial tasks, including entity management and company policy documentation.
- Lead the adoption of legal technology to manage the legal portfolio and drive operational efficiency.
Requirements
- 10+ years as a licensed attorney (in-house experience preferred, not required) or 5+ years in the renewable energy sector.
- JD from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in the Texas State Bar (or ability to obtain admission within 60 days of start).
- Litigation or litigation management experience required.
- Foundational knowledge of commercial transactional matters, ideally in construction, renewable energy, or consumer law.
- Experience in, or genuine willingness to learn, the renewable energy industry.
- Capacity to work autonomously, juggle multiple priorities, and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Strategic thinker with strong business acumen who can clearly articulate recommendations that drive decisions.
- Ability to work in-office in Austin, TX.
- Excellent communication skills and a professional demeanor.
- High integrity, sound judgment, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving skills.
- A willingness to roll up your sleeves in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
